The Clinician: Dr. John West, DDS, MSD As the founder and director of the Center for Endodontics, British-born Dr. John West is recognized as one of world’s premier educators in clinical and interdisciplinary endodontics. John West received his DDS from the University of Washington where he is an Affiliate Associate Professor.  He earned his MSD in endodontics at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine while being educated by the late Professor Herbert Schilder.  John is a clinical instructor at Boston University where he has been awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award. He has presented unrivaled endodontic continuing education in all the world’s continents while maintaining a private practice at the Center for Endodontics in Tacoma, Washington. He mentors the world’s only stand-alone four day mini-endodontic residency program at the Interdisciplinary Dental Education Academy (IDEA) in San Francisco.  John is a clinical visionary, an inventor, a teacher, an author, and an advocate for any dentist who wants to experience the successful possibilities of endodontics in his or her practice. His personal teaching style resonates with audiences as he teaches them how to achieve clinical artistry in their craft and invites them to become masterful endodontic clinicians. He co-authored Obturation of the Radicular Space with Dr. John Ingle in Ingle’s 1994 and 2002 editions of Endodontics and was senior author of Cleaning and Shaping the Root Canal System in Cohen and Burns 1994 and 1998 Pathways of the Pulp. He has authored Endodontic Predictability in Dr. Michael Cohen’s 2008 Quintessence text Interdisciplinary Treatment Planning: Principles, Design, Implementation, and Michael Cohen’s 2010 Quintessence text Interdisciplinary Treatment Planning Volume II: Comprehensive Case Studies.  He is lead author of Esthetic Management of Endodontically Treated Teeth in Dr. Ronald Goldstein’s 2017 third edition of Esthetics in Dentistry.  John’s memberships include: 2009 president and fellow of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and 2010 president of the Academy of Microscope Enhanced Dentistry, the former Northwest Network for Dental Excellence, and the International College of Dentists. He is a 2010 consultant for the ADA’s prestigious ADA Board of Trustees and is a consultant to the ADA Council on Dental Practice.  John is a member of the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine’s Boston University Alumni Board and a Thought Leader for Carestream Digital Dental Systems.  He serves on the editorial advisory boards for: The Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, Practical Procedures and Aesthetic Dentistry. The Journal of Microscope Enhanced Dentistry, Dentistry Today, and is associate editor for Endodontic Practice/US. John and his two sons, Jason and Jordan, are in private endodontic practice in Tacoma, Washington where they are dedicated to exceeding the expectations of the restorative dentist, their patients and themselves.
