Speaker: Dr. Kenneth Chow / Dr. Jason Choi / Dr. David Yang

Synopsis: When do we need to remove impacted teeth? When is the best time? The objectives of this lecture is to review the indications, treatment planning and risk and benefits for removal of impacted teeth. Also techniques for removal will be discussed as well as complications that can occur. Finally we will review the adjunctive methods for patient comfort during the procedure.

The Clinician:Dr. Kenneth Chow is a Certified Specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with practices in Vancouver, Burnaby, and Richmond. He recently started OMS group with Dr. Jason Choi and Dr. David Yang. He is a Clinical Associate Professor at UBC and Assistant Head of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UBC and has been teaching since 1996. He is presently the Chair of the Ethics Committee at CDSBC. He is also on staff at VGH, UBC Hospital, BC Cancer Agency and involved in teaching in the GPR program. He is a mentor of the Greater Vancouver Study Club and has lectured in many conferences, CE courses, and study clubs. Ken completed his dentistry at University of Southern California and his Specialty training at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. He continues to enjoy teaching others the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and other areas of Dentistry that can ultimately improve patient care.

Dr. Jason Choi is a Certified Specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery who provides the full scope of surgical treatment for the oral-facial complex. Dr. Choi completed his dental education at the University of Southern California in 2003. After graduation he completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training at Montefiore Medical Center in New York in 2011. He is also a member of the medical staff at BC Children’s Hospital providing emergency services. Currently Dr. Choi teaches at UBC Dental School and travels to the Queen Charlotte’s First Nation Band Dental Clinics to teach the UBC GPRs.

Dr. David Yang is the Provincial Practice Leader in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for the BC Cancer Agency. He is the co-founder and co-president of the ITI Vancouver Implant Study Club. He also lectures regularly for the general practice residents, pathology residents, prostho residents and dental students at VGH & UBC. Dr. Yang received his dental degree from University of Toronto. He completed both his General Practice Residency as well as his Oral Surgery Residency at Cornell Medical Center.
