SYNOPSIS:

PART 1: When should a child come for their first dental visit? Finding a dental home. How to examine an infant or young child. What to look for. When to take radiographs. When to consider treatment versus preventive options.

PART 2: A review of advanced behaviour management techniques: Nitrous oxide, Sedation, and General Anesthesia. Which is the appropriate option?

PART 3: A review of pulp therapies in the primary dentition. Pulpotomy and Pulpectomy techniques.

PART 4: A review of the Management of Trauma in primary dentition. Current treatment philosophies.

The Clinician:

Dr. John T.W. Hung is Limited to Pediatric Dentistry. He has worked only with children since graduating from dental school. Dr. Hung is a Fellow of the American Society of Dentistry for Children, a clinical assistant professor at UBC, and is on staff at BC’s Children’s Hospital. He has played a significant role in public health dentistry over the years.

Dr. Peter Y.K. Chan is a Certified Specialist in Pediatric Dentistry. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He is also a clinical assistant professor at UBC and is on staff at BC’s Children’s Hospital. Dr. Chan has served as a past-President of the BC Society of Pediatric Dentists and is currently co-President of the Chinese Canadian Dental Society of BC.

Dr. Mark F. Casafrancisco is a Certified Specialist in Pediatric Dentistry. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He is also a clinical assistant professor at UBC and is on staff at BC’s Children’s Hospital. Dr. Casafrancisco is the current President of the BC Society of Pediatric Dentists.

Dr. Elsa Hui-Derksen is a Certified Specialist in Pediatric Dentistry. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. She is also a clinical assistant professor at UBC and is on staff at BC’s Children’s Hospital. Dr. Hui-Derksen is the current Vice-President of the BC Society of Pediatric Dentists.

Dr. Jennifer Yee is a Certified Specialist in Pediatric Dentistry. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons and a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. She is also a clinical assistant professor at UBC and is on staff at B.C.’s Children’s Hospital. Dr. Yee is the current Secretary-Treasurer of the B.C. Society of Pediatric Dentists.
