Synopsis: Dr. Tom Roozendaal integrated in house CAD/CAM into his practice in 2006. This was used strictly for tooth borne prosthetics for several years. Due to his focus on implantology, he added a CBTC to his office in With recent advancements, the combination of these two pieces of technology, has allowed the dawn of complete chairside implant planning, placement and restoration. Dentists now have the power to prosthetically drive implant placement with digital scanning, surgical guide fabrication, temporary crowns or customized healing abutments and final restorations all in office, if desired and without the need for an external laboratory. This paradigm leads the way to comprehensive planning, increasing predictability in surgical placement, developing stable ideal emergence profiles, decreasing surgical appointments and increasing overall efficiencies. The results are enhanced esthetics, decreased chair time, better implant hygiene and satisfied patients.

Learning Points:

  • An overview of digital scanning and available materials for milled restorations
  • Individual steps of the process of chairside implant treatment planning, surgery, healing and the final restoration
  • Clinical examples of each step from patients in his general dental practice
  • How the combination of a digital surface scan, when integrated with a CBCT image can lead to increased predictability, confidence and best results when placing and restoring implants
  • Address many of the complications with implant restorations start with less-than-ideal surgical placement. Attendees will see how this workflow can alleviate many of these challenges and lead to improved patient care

The Clinician: Dr. Tom Roozendaal is a General Dentist who practices on Vancouver Island in the Cowichan Valley. He graduated from UBC in 2001 and is an Associate Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. He sat on the Research Submission Committee of the Academy of Osseointegration for 8 years and currently sits on the Clinical Innovations Committee of that same organization. Dr. Roozendaal is proud to be a General Dentist and is excited about the rapidly expanding realm of digital dentistry which can be integrated into any forward thinking practice. The complete digital workflow for implant planning, placement and restoration is a flagship procedure that Dr. Roozendaal is excited to present from the position of a surgical and restorative dentist.
